Portugal’s capital and its most populous city, Lisbon is among Europe’s most popular study destinations for both domestic and international students. A number of public and private higher education institutions provide studying opportunities for a total of 128,394 students enrolled in 2021/2022, 16% of whom are international.
As in other cities covered in BONARD’s City Webinar series, there is still a substantial gap in Lisbon between an ever-growing demand and the current supply of purpose-built student accommodation, with market saturation standing at 3.9%.
The development of student housing in Lisbon over the next few years is expected to be shaped by both the expansion of the market’s leading players and the arrival of new international entrants, with a cumulative pipeline of approximately 3,600 new beds.
There is a growing appetite for PBSA development, as a number of foreign investors have recently announced their plans to establish new products in the city. Alongside insiders’ perspectives and views on future outlook, this session provided strategic advice on how to navigate the market.
