US, Charlottesville: Subtext, Kayne Anderson Break Ground on 1,332-Bed Student Housing Development Near University of Virginia

A joint venture between Subtext and Kayne Anderson Real Estate has broken ground on VERVE Charlottesville, a 1,332-bed student housing project located adjacent to the University of Virginia campus at 100 Stadium Road in Charlottesville. The 12-story community will span 729,262 square feet and offer 463 units in studio, one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom floorplans.

UK, London: RED wins £31 million student accommodation job

RED Construction Group has been appointed by Infrastructure Investments Ltd to deliver a £31 million student accommodation redevelopment in Shoreditch, east London. The appointment follows the completion of £1.8 million of enabling works by RED’s Special Projects division. The main contract will be undertaken by RED Construction London and is scheduled for completion in autumn 2025.

Ireland, Dublin: Plans for 316-bed student accommodation in former Independent Newspapers HQ

Plans for a nine-storey student accommodation block at the former Independent Newspapers headquarters in Dublin city centre will be lodged by British developer Summix in the coming days. In the published statutory planning notice, Summix IHD Developments Ltd says it intends lodging a Large Scale Residential Development application with Dublin City Council to develop a 316 student bed-space scheme in Middle Abbey Street.

UK: Former M&S store acquired for landmark BTR scheme

BlueCastle Capital has acquired the former Marks & Spencer store on Birmingham’s High Street for a landmark development. The build-to-rent (BTR) developer and investment and asset manager is set to deliver a residential-led development, just 250 ft from the future Curzon Street HS2 Station. It forms part of BlueCastle’s seed portfolio for its UK BTR fund, as well as joining a pipeline of more than 1,500 BTR homes, which also includes Stevenage, Cardiff and Sheffield.

UK: JV partners set to launch Dublin BTR scheme

Joint venture partners Harrison Street and Eagle Street Partners are set to launch the Marshall Yards Build-to-Rent (BTR) scheme in Dublin next month. The scheme, in Dublin’s Docklands, topped out in November last year. It is made up of 554 apartments over nine blocks up to 15-storeys and two duplex blocks arranged around a central public plaza. It also includes 4,000 square metres of commercial space which will feature a café, creche and retail units.

The two properties sold all-cash for $34.5 million.
