UK, London : Scheme to turn 1980s Southwark office block into student homes gets planning green light

On Monday, Crous Normandie unveiled a project for a new university residence in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin. Located near the IUT of Octeville, it would consist of 120 housing units and is part of the Cotentin urban area's objective of reaching 5,000 students by 2035.

UK, Middlesbrough : Wates signs for major Middlesbrough’s Gresham regeneration

Wates has been appointed to deliver a £120 million regeneration project expected to transform a brownfield site near the centre of Middlesborough. The project is part of the wider Middlesbrough masterplan, with the first phase including more than 230 build-to-rent properties and residential accommodation for more than 450 students.

US: GFH Partners acquires $300 million A-Class student housing assets

GFH Partners, the global asset management arm of GFH Financial Group, has acquired A-Class purpose-built student housing assets worth $300 million in the United States. The assets, which are 99 per cent occupied, are located near major public universities and bring GFH Partners’ total US student housing portfolio to more than 5,500 beds and $900 million in assets under management.

UK: Secure Trust Bank (STB) has provided a £13.7 MLN loan for a BTR scheme in Edinburgh

Secure Trust Bank (STB) has provided a £13.7 MLN loan for a BTR scheme in Edinburgh. Edmond de Rothschild REIM has secured the loan to regenerate Stead’s Place in the Scottish capital, creating 110 apartments. Located near the foot of Leith Walk, this collection of one, two and three-bedroom apartments is scheduled to be completed by the first quarter of 2025.

UK: Grainger acquires Cardiff site for 400-home build-to-rent (BTR) scheme

Grainger has acquired a site in Cardiff which it believes could accommodate around 400 new built-to-rent (BTR) homes. Investment includes a £6.25 MLN site at John Street, which includes the long leasehold of five railway arches. Britain’s largest listed residential landlord says its proposed scheme would include the creation of around 400 homes and resident amenities, while “re-activating” the railway arches with commercial uses and publicly accessible open space.

UK: Starlight increases UK BTR Platform with £500 MLN acquisition of three communities

Starlight Investments, a global real estate investment and asset management firm, has acquired three Build-to-Rent (BTR) communities under development in Manchester and Basildon for over £500 MLN. In Manchester, Starlight will be acquiring two high-rise towers from Renaker. The city has experienced among the highest population and economic growth of all major cities in the UK over the past 10 years, a trend which is expected to continue over the next decade. The first Manchester property being acquired is a 60-storey, 532-suite residential tower currently under construction in the Castlefield conservation area on the bank of the River Irwell.
