The universities exchanged contracts for University Hall on Birchwood Road. Cardiff University will continue using the residence during the 2026/27 academic year. Cardiff Met expects to welcome its own students from September 2027.
Cardiff Metropolitan University says the move will support affordable accommodation and reduce travel between its residences and Cyncoed campus.
Strategic context
The purchase supports Cardiff Met's long‑term accommodation strategy by bringing more students near its teaching facilities.
For Cardiff University, it advances an estate strategy focused more closely on its city‑centre campuses.
